  • Diets Galore. Diets Galore.
Even as I’m writing this I’m sucking down a venti White Chocolate Mocha like it’s the elixir of life. It’s my third today. This, obviously, is not a healthy way to live. I have, I promise, been eating clean for the most part like I promised myself that I would. I feel good, I feel healthy. Still, as I approach the six month mark of my new lifestyle I thought that it was time for a little refresher on the basics of a healthy diet. I’m no expert, of course, but I wanted to share with you four health-conscious ways...

  • The Amish, The English, and The Connection The Amish, The English, and The Connection
When Yvonne started the journey toward making Tree of Life a reality she hoped that the center would not only fill a gap in Clarksville that needed attention, but also that the center would open up new opportunities to grow and connect with the world around us. I know that sometimes it can seem like health and healing centers have all the answers, but at Tree of Life we’re every bit as interested in learning from other lifestyles and philosophies as we are in sharing our own knowledge with others. It seemed a bit like kismet, then, when a Tree...

  • Surround Yourself with Dreamers Surround Yourself with Dreamers
I’m traveling this week to a concert that I’ve been looking forward to for months now. Who doesn’t love a live concert, right? Especially big-production, over-the-top affairs that take your breath away and leave you on a “concert high” for days. To be standing in a room full of people, all enjoying the same moment, excited about the same music, feeling the same beats and reverberations echoing through your body…there’s just nothing like it. As I’ve been anticipating the concert, though, I can’t help thinking about all that goes into putting on a production like a high-level concert. There are...

  • Listen to Your Inner Voice Listen to Your Inner Voice
How many of you can remember the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you? For most of us, that memory is right up there with your wedding day and the birth of your children in your list of most vivid memories. No one likes to be embarrassed and so when we unavoidably do something ridiculous it’s a bit traumatic to say the least. I, for one, have spent a great deal of my life trying to blend in nicely to my surroundings. I never wanted to stand out too much, to draw too much attention, to risk doing...

  • Blessings in Disguise Blessings in Disguise
Tree of Life construction is coming along fabulously! “What seems to us as bitter trials are often blessings in disguise.” –Oscar Wilde As a relatively recent college graduate I spend roughly 94% of my time planning. Career plans, relationship plans, plans to make contacts, plans to make friends. The future is a scary place, after all, and if you’re anything like me you understand that the best way to ensure a happy and successful future is to be prepared. Hence the planning. Unfortunately, logically I know that there’s no way to guarantee anything in life. It’s silly and harmful to...

  • My Latest Obsession: Clean Eating! My Latest Obsession: Clean Eating!
You know those days when you find yourself stopping, midway through your day, suddenly realizing that you feel sluggish, testy, and cloudy? No? Please tell me that that isn’t just me. I’ve found myself feeling this way more often than not over the past year and with the dawn of 2013 I finally decided to do something about it. But what? My magic wand is in the shop, so that wasn’t an option, and getting more sleep just isn’t always possible in a life that includes kids, a job, and an occasional social life. Even when I am able to...

  • "Where Everybody Knows Your Name..." “Where Everybody Knows Your Name…”
I took a vacation to Dallas not too long ago to visit family, sightsee, and live out my JR Ewing fantasies. The first night in town my family decided that we didn’t want to waste any time cooking [What is it about driving all day that makes you absolutely famished?!] so we hopped into the car to search for sustenance. We sat, stuck in traffic, trying to figure out where to go, but as we all tossed out suggestions I became more disappointed by the second. I came to Dallas expecting to be wined and dined Texas style! I...

  • Stop and Smell the Roses...And the Strawberries! Stop and Smell the Roses…And the Strawberries!
I have wonderfully fond memories of summers in Clarksville as a kid. Jumping up at 7 in the morning, running outside to meet friends, staying gone for hours. We’d ride our bikes all over town, making up stories about “haunted” abandoned houses, ending the day by lying in the grass, covering strawberries with as much sugar as we could possibly pile on. Thinking about it still makes me smile. Okay. I do know what you’re thinking. That was possibly the cheesiest statement I’ve ever made.  Fair enough. Still, it’s completely true. All of the memories that I really cherish from...

  • Introducing Tree of Life! Introducing Tree of Life!
Hello, Clarksville! Welcome to Tree of Life and our first official blog post! As happy as I am that you’re here, though, I’m sure you didn’t take a break from your busy day just for my cheery greeting. Who are we? What are our plans? What can we do for you? You need answers! Let me start out by asking you a question. How many times today did you feel rushed, stressed, or tired? How many times today did you stop to smell the roses…or stop to do anything for that matter? If you’re anything like me the answer to the first...
